UN Deputy Secretary-General Meets with Leaders of Both Communities in Cyprus

UN Deputy Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo met today with the leaders of both communities in Cyprus. The senior UN official arrived on the island a day earlier.

According to the Turkish Cypriot leader’s press office, the meeting was scheduled for 10:00 AM and took place at the presidential residence, lasting about an hour and a half.

Following her talks with the Turkish Cypriot leader, DiCarlo is set to meet with Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides at noon. Discussions will focus on opening new crossing points and the next steps in the Cyprus negotiations ahead of an upcoming informal meeting in an expanded format.

Before these meetings, DiCarlo will hold a briefing with Colin Stewart, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative and Head of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP).

She is expected to leave Cyprus the following day and travel to the capitals of the guarantor states. After her visit to the island, she will hold talks in Athens and Ankara.
