Cyprus Residents Urged to Avoid Driving in State Forests

The Forestry Department of the Republic of Cyprus has urged drivers to refrain from driving through state forests to protect the natural habitat during a critical period for wildlife.

According to the department, vehicles in forested areas can disturb birds of prey during their nesting and breeding season. For this reason, the use of cars and bicycles on nature trails is strictly prohibited.

Drivers are advised to use only main or secondary roads, as this time is vital for the well-being of bird species.

The department also reminded the public that off-road driving and causing damage to forest vegetation are punishable offenses. Violators could face up to one year in prison, fines of up to €5,000, or both.
