Kourion residents to protest against the installation of military antennas
Residents, civil society organisations and the Kourion municipality will hold a peaceful protest today, 8 August, outside the British Bases in Akrotiri. Participants oppose the installation of new military antennas and are demanding that the project be suspended.
Participants are due to gather at 9:30 at the entrance to the municipal district of Akrotiri. The protesters will then march and hand a corresponding resolution to representatives of the British Bases.
According to the mayor of Kourion, the initial plan was to install 20 antennas, but their number subsequently increased to 68. This has caused concern among local residents.
The British Bases, for their part, say that the work will not begin until all necessary procedures have been completed, including an environmental assessment of the project.
