Larnaca residents complain of stench and a mosquito infestation
Residents of the Kati area in Larnaca have been facing a foul smell and a large number of mosquitoes due to stagnant water in a stormwater channel.
According to local residents, the situation has become unbearable with the onset of hot weather. They say the strong stench makes it embarrassing to invite guests over, and on some days it is even impossible to leave the house. Complaints have already been submitted to the Larnaca Municipality.
Last week, city services cleared the section of the channel near the residential buildings, but this did not solve the problem. According to preliminary information, water is flowing into the channel from the Aradippou area. Specialists are now trying to identify its source, after which the remaining sections of the channel are expected to be cleaned.
The stormwater channel was built to protect the Livadia area from flooding. Over time, it became overgrown with reeds, which led to stagnant water, an unpleasant smell and the proliferation of mosquitoes.
