ETKO in Limassol: from an old winery to a festival venue

ETKO is one of Limassol’s most unusual modern venues. Today, it hosts music festivals, concerts, exhibitions and other events, while just a few decades ago wine was produced and stored on these premises. Instead of completely demolishing the former industrial complex, its old buildings, hangars and wine tanks were incorporated into a new space. As a result, ETKO has preserved its industrial character while becoming part of the city’s modern cultural life.

The venue became particularly well known thanks to the electronic music festival BEONIX, which has been held here since 2023. In 2026, the festival returns to ETKO from 25 to 27 September.

History of ETKO

The history of ETKO is connected with one of Cyprus’ oldest winemaking families. In 1844, Christodoulos Hadjipavlou began commercial wine production in Limassol. The enterprise developed alongside the city’s winemaking industry, and in 1871 the family business began industrial brandy production.

In 1947, the family enterprise split into two directions. ETKO focused on winemaking, while a separate company continued producing spirits.

Later, ETKO became one of Limassol’s major wineries, alongside KEO, LOEL and SODAP. These enterprises largely shaped the industrial appearance of the western part of the city, where wineries were located close to the port and transport routes.

The winery complex in Limassol

In 1969, a large ETKO production complex with a capacity of around 40 million litres was built in Limassol. The premises included areas for processing grapes, warehouses and large tanks for producing and storing wine.

The scale of the enterprise explains the unusual appearance of modern ETKO. The spacious industrial buildings and open courtyards were designed for large-scale production, not concerts. These very features later made it possible to accommodate several independent stages and venues here.

From 1992, the company’s winemaking activities gradually began moving to the Omodos area. Over time, the old complex in Limassol lost its original importance as a major production site.

How the former winery was given a new lease of life

When the site was transformed, it was decided not to erase its industrial past. The old buildings, hangars, open spaces and former wine tanks became part of ETKO’s new concept.

Some industrial elements were given a completely different function. For example, one of the spaces was created on the site of restored wine tanks. Other former production areas are used for stages, exhibitions and events.

As a result, ETKO did not become an ordinary concert complex with newly built universal pavilions. The industrial architecture here has become part of the atmosphere: concrete, metal, large production spaces and traces of the old winery coexist with stages, lighting structures, contemporary art and music.

What ETKO is like today

Today, ETKO operates as a multifunctional venue for cultural, musical, corporate and private events.

It is not one large hall. The site is divided into numerous spaces of different formats — enclosed former production areas, open venues, courtyards and separate stage zones. Depending on the event, organisers may use only part of the complex or combine several spaces at once.

Overall, ETKO includes more than 20 different zones. This allows both relatively small events and large festivals with several stages and thousands of visitors to take place on the site.

What events take place at ETKO

The site’s new life is especially apparent during major music events. The former winery is used for electronic music, concerts, art projects, exhibitions and special events.

ETKO’s best-known event is BEONIX. The festival moved here in 2023 and has been closely associated with the industrial venue ever since.

The site has also hosted electronic music projects and performances by international artists. At different times, events featuring Black Coffee, Maceo Plex, HUGEL, Mayan Warrior, Super Flu, Yulia Niko and other performers have taken place here.

ETKO has also been used for the ZAMNA Limassol project. The format is particularly well suited to the site: large stage structures, lighting and visual installations are set up directly among the former industrial buildings.

BEONIX 2026

ETKO’s main upcoming event is the three-day electronic music festival BEONIX, which will take place from 25–27 September 2026.

The festival itself began in 2022 in Larnaca. The following year, BEONIX moved to Limassol and chose ETKO as its permanent venue. The former winery became an important part of the festival’s visual identity: stages are set among old industrial structures, which are transformed in the evening by lighting, screens and installations.

Artists announced for 2026 include Röyksopp, Adam Beyer, Benny Benassi, Argy, CamelPhat, Monolink, Jan Blomqvist, Patrick Mason, Bedouin, Pan-Pot, OXIA, Raxon and Wade.

The programme includes the Main Stage, Hangar Stage, Garden Stage and a separate Organic Ibiza Global Radio venue. ETKO’s different spaces allow visitors to move between stages without leaving the former winery grounds.

At the time of publication, both passes for all three days and tickets for individual dates are available.

Student tickets are intended for students studying in Cyprus; a supporting document will be required at the entrance. Prices and availability of individual categories may change as tickets are sold.

Can ETKO be visited without attending an event?

ETKO should not be confused with a wine museum. There is no permanent museum exhibition dedicated to the old winery and no regular daily visiting schedule for tourists.

Today, it is primarily an active event venue. The most interesting way to see the former industrial complex from the inside is to attend a festival, concert, exhibition or another event taking place on the site.

Between events, individual spaces may be closed or used to prepare for upcoming events.

The historical ETKO exhibition

A museum section dedicated to the history of the winery and the Hadjipavlou family has been preserved on the ETKO site. It features old winemaking equipment, photographs, documents and other materials related to the development of production. However, this is not a conventional museum with permanent daily opening hours for visitors: access to the exhibition may depend on events and the venue’s operating schedule.

ETKO is located in Tsiflikoudia, in the western part of central Limassol, not far from the city’s old industrial and port areas.
