Inflation in Cyprus accelerated to 3.5% in August, fuel prices rose by 20.3%

Consumer prices in Cyprus rose by 3.5% year on year in August, the Statistical Service of Cyprus (CyStat) reported. Inflation has accelerated for the fifth consecutive month: the annual rate stood at 2.9% in July.

The main contribution to the increase came from petroleum products, which rose by 20.3% year on year, as well as electricity and water, which were up 6% from August 2025.

Of the 45 categories of goods and services monitored by the statistical service, 19 became more expensive compared with July, 25 became cheaper, and one remained unchanged. Year on year, prices increased in 40 of the 45 categories.

The sharpest monthly price increases were recorded for ready-made broth, up 3.7% (and 11.3% compared with August 2025), fresh vegetables, up 3.2%, and charcoal for grilling, up 2.9%.

The most notable price decreases were recorded for frozen seafood, down 11.9%, fresh fish, down 4.9%, and laundry detergents, down 4.8%.

The Consumer Protection Service recommends that shoppers compare prices before making a purchase and use the state-run e-kalathi platform, which lists prices for everyday goods.
