Conor McGregor’s comeback turned into a disaster: UFC legend lost in 69 seconds after a ridiculous injury

The long-awaited return of former two-weight UFC champion Conor McGregor ended in a true nightmare. At UFC 329 in Las Vegas, the Irishman lost to Max Holloway by technical knockout just 69 seconds into the bout.

McGregor had not stepped into the octagon for almost five years. Fans had been eagerly awaiting his return, but the fight was over almost immediately after the opening bell.

From the first seconds, the Irishman launched an attack and tried to land a spectacular jumping kick. However, upon landing, he placed his right foot extremely awkwardly, causing his knee to buckle. Despite the intense pain, McGregor tried to continue fighting, but several times lost his balance and literally fell over on flat ground.

The referee quickly realized that the fighter could not properly defend himself and stopped the bout. The technical knockout victory was awarded to Max Holloway. According to preliminary reports, McGregor is suspected of suffering a serious injury to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), although the final diagnosis must be confirmed after a medical examination.

After the fight, UFC head Dana White said that no health problems had been identified for McGregor before he entered the octagon. The Irishman himself also rejected suggestions that he had gone into the fight already injured, calling what happened “a real hell” and promising to return after recovery.

For McGregor, this defeat became another heavy blow to his career. His comeback had been delayed several times: first because of a severe leg fracture in 2021, then because of a finger injury, and later because of a long suspension that only ended in the spring of 2026. Now a new serious injury once again puts into question the future of one of the most famous fighters in the history of mixed martial arts.

According to sports media, McGregor’s guaranteed purse for this fight amounted to about $15 million, despite such a swift defeat.
