The North Cyprus police carried out a major operation in Kyrenia, resulting in the detention of 19 people suspected of fraud through a fictitious investment platform and money laundering.

According to the investigation, a company posing as an investment firm was operating from two offices on Şehit Metin Gönülgeli Street. In reality, no actual investments were being made — clients were persuaded to invest through a fake online platform, after which the funds were misappropriated.

During the searches, officers from the Financial Crimes Unit seized a large number of computers, mobile phones and other digital storage devices that were allegedly used in the commission of the crimes.

A preliminary review showed that around 550,553 US dollars passed through the scheme between 1 January and 7 July 2026. Investigators believe the money was obtained fraudulently and subsequently laundered.

Among those detained were the company owner and 18 employees. The Kyrenia court granted the police request and kept all suspects in custody for a further two days while the analysis of the seized equipment, video recordings and statements from potential victims continues.
