The Office of Scientific Communications of Eastern Mediterranean University, together with the Lefke Municipality, held an open seminar dedicated to the prevention of cardiovascular diseases. The event took place within the scope of the Science Café project and brought together local residents interested in a healthy lifestyle.
Professors from the Faculty of Health Sciences examined in detail how modern habits affect the functioning of the heart. The speakers emphasized the importance of a balanced diet with an emphasis on vegetables, greens and healthy fats, while also stressing the need to limit processed meat.
Scientists paid special attention to combating a lack of physical activity. According to medical recommendations, adults need to devote at least 180 minutes a week to exercise. The experts suggested two optimal schemes: one hour three times a week or 36 minutes five days a week. The organizers noted that similar educational lectures will continue in other regions of the island.
